Hi !

It’s been a very long time since I’ve posted something on my website, and I should have done it a while ago, about the new band that I started two years ago, in 2022, and which is called “MoonShaders”.

MoonShaders is composed of:

Thomas Liard: guitars, vocals

Michael Vosswinkel aka “Mike Fosse”: drums, percussion

Myself (“Tim Chesley”): bass, keyboards, loops, vocals

To come back to the history of the group, we met in 2021 with Mike in Maisons-Laffitte which is the group’s headquarters, at the time I had sold a washing machine to Mike, and we realised we had a common passion for music !

We didn’t play with Mike right away, we would first get together to drink beers, talk about music and life, and see the concerts of the bands we had as influences, such as The Pineapple Thief, Porcupine Tree, …

We then decided to set up a trio type band, which was initially meant to sound like some sort of progressive jazz-rock (!), that’s how we met Thomas in 2022, and we started to rehearse together while taking advantage of the rehearsal rooms made available by the House of Rock association in Maisons-Laffitte (thanks again Yann!)

At the beginning we started practising our skills on covers (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Oasis, Bronski Beat, Pearl Jam, …), then we started working on original stuff, and it was pretty simple here : Thomas would bring songs in French, and me in English. Thomas brought some older songs that he had already worked on. While on my side, I wanted to start again from scratch with new original stuff especially for the band, I didn’t want to use some older material stamped “Tim Chesley”.

We quickly found our sound, a kind of pop-rock with touches of progressive rock, enhanced by a slightly electro sound due to the use of the small portable Korg electrokorg XL keyboard and loops recorded with other keyboards on the Boss RC-500 loopstation.

A friend of Thomas, Cédric Pierfed, also came to accompany us on some concerts, adding  a slight Irish feel, which can also be found on some tracks of our first EP, “Intemporaire”, released in April 2024, see below on the following platforms :

Now to the agenda of the band, coming this fall, is the realization of a video clip, and recording of new songs in 2025 (singles, new EP)

Cela fait très longtemps que je n’ai pas posté quelque chose sur mon site web, et je me devais le faire depuis longtemps, pour le nouveau groupe que j’ai monté il y a maintenant deux ans, en 2022, et qui s’appelle donc MoonShaders.

MoonShaders est composé de :

• Thomas Liard : guitares, chant
• Michael Vosswinkel alias « Mike Fosse” : batterie, percussions
• Moi-même (“Tim Chesley”) : basse, claviers, loops, chant

Pour revenir sur l’histoire du groupe, nous nous sommes rencontrés en 2021 avec Mike à Maisons-Laffitte qui est le quartier général du groupe, à l’époque j’avais vendu une machine à laver à Mike sur « le bon coin », et nous avons sympathisé !

Nous n’avons pas joué tout de suite avec Mike, nous nous retrouvions d’abord pour boire des bières, parler musique et de la vie, et voir les concerts des groupes que nous avions comme influences, tels que Pineapple Thief, Porcupine Tree, …

Nous avons ensuite décidé de monter un groupe de type trio qui se voulait jazz-rock progressif au départ (!), c’est ainsi que nous avons rencontré Thomas en 2022, et nous avons commencé à répéter ensemble en profitant des salles mises à disposition par l’association House of Rock à Maisons-Laffitte (encore merci Yann !)

Au début nous nous sommes fait la main sur des reprises (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Oasis, Bronski Beat, Pearl Jam, …) puis nous avons commencé à travailler sur des compositions, avec une dichotomie simple : les compos de Thomas, en Français, et mes compos, en anglais. Thomas a amené de son côté des compos plus anciennes qu’il avait déjà travaillé. Alors que de mon côté, je suis plutôt repartir d’une page blanche avec des nouvelles compos spécialement pour le groupe, je n’ai pas voulu utiliser du matériel plus ancien estampillé « Tim Chesley ».

Nous avons vite trouvé notre son, une sorte de pop-rock avec des teintes de rock progressif, avec un son légèrement électro du fait de l’utilisation du petit synthé portable Korg electrokorg XL et des loops enregistrées avec différents claviers sur la Boss RC-500

Un ami de Thomas, Cédric Pierfed, est venu également nous accompagner sur certains concerts, donnant une légère touche irlandaise, qu’on retrouve également donc sur certains morceaux de notre premier EP, « Intemporaire », sorti en avril 2024, et qu’on peut retrouver sur toutes les plateformes

Au planning du groupe, outre les concerts, est donc l’enregistrement d’une vidéo, et un nouvel enregistrement (singles, nouvel EP) que l’on prévoit en 2025.

Je suis fier d’annoncer la sortie de mon nouveau single « Faith Without You » issu de l’EP « The Last Blue Sky » lui-même sorti et distribué par Revolver Records depuis Octobre 2021.

« Faith Without You » est un titre important pour moi, qui renvoit à des questions existentielles telles que l’immortalité et la foi dans une vie où nous errons malgré nous dans une quête perpétuelle du divin.

Le clip animé accompagnant la sortie du single a été réalisé par deux sœurs graphistes très talentueuses, Mylène et Julie Jarrier-Stettin, qui ont réalisé un super travail !

I am proud to announce the release of a new single, “Faith Without You“, out of my new EP “The Last Blue Sky” released in October 2021.

“Faith Without You“ is an important track to me, as its underlying message is the difficulty of keeping faith in a world when important people to you leave you behind, and when you are sometimes looking for divine signs and do not see them. But still, I am a believer, and I believe God has is owns ways, which are beyond understanding.

To accompany the release of this single, an animated video clip was realized by two sisters, Mylène and Julie Jarrier-Stettin, both graphic designers, who did a fantastic job!

C’est avec une grande fierté que je vous annonce la sortie de mon nouveau single “Dreamers“, en avant-première de l’EP “The Last Blue Sky” qui lui sortira le mercredi 13 octobre

“Dreamers” est un des titres dont je suis le plus fier, car les paroles sont venues tout naturellement, presque d’un seul jet, alors que d’habitude je galère pour trouver les bons mots sur les bonnes mélodies.

“Dreamers” est le premier titre que je sors officiellement avec le label anglais Revolver Records, avec qui j’ai résigné cette année pour mes nouvelles productions à venir.

Tout d’abord, j’espère que vous allez bien après ce qui a été une année compliquée (je vais rester poli …) pour tout le monde.

De mon côté, j’ai eu la chance jusqu’à ce jour de rester en bonne santé, et j’ai progressé lentement mais sûrement sur la finalisation de mon dernier EP intitulé « The Last Blue Sky ».

Les chansons sont maintenant toutes enregistrées et mixées (à l’exception d’un morceau où j’ai été assez pointilleux et exigeant avec le mixeur Anthony Arconte: j’espère qu’il me pardonnera)

L’étape suivante est le mastering, puis la promotion.

Je n’ai pas prévu de faire de concerts pour l’instant, mais peut-être des sortes de concerts à la maison sur YouTube en direct (piano – programmations – voix). L’un des objectifs de 2021 est de travailler sur un répertoire.

J’ai fait quelques rencontre intéressantes ces derniers temps (radio locale, agence d’artistes, web marketing, …), j’espère que cela donnera des résultats en 2021!

Bonnes nouvelles aussi du côté du label où je devrais recevoir prochainement un nouveau contrat avec Revolver Records à partir de 2021.

J’espère que vous passerez tous des bonnes fêtes de fin d’année, et que vous trouverez la paix et l’harmonie pour commencer 2021 sur le bon pied.

First of all I hope you are doing fine after what was a complicated year (I will stay polite…) for everyone.

On my side, I have been lucky enough to this day to stay healthy, and I have been advancing slowly but surely on finalizing my last EP called “The Last Blue Sky”.

The songs are now all recorded and mixed (except for one track where I have been pretty picky and demanding with the mixer Anthony Arconte : hope he will forgive me)

The next step is the mastering and then promoting.

I am not planning at this stage any gigs, but maybe some kind of gigs from home on YouTube live. One of the goals of 2021 is to work on a repertoire here.

I have made some interesting connections lately (local radio, artist agency, web marketing, …), hopefully this will give some results in 2021.

Good news also on the record label side where I should be receiving soon a new contract with Revolver Records from 2021 onwards.

I hope you all have a great Christmas and New Year’s Eve, and find peace and harmony in your soul to start 2021 with good spirit.
